Morris Files for 4th District House of Delegates Seat

February 18, 2014
By IAN HICKS Staff Writer , The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

Ron Morris of Glen Dale has announced he's running as a Republican for a seat in the West Virginia House of Delegates representing the 4th District.

"As a lifetime West Virginian, I have a strong desire to help our state to have a brighter future for children and (be) a safe place for all to live," Morris said.

Morris is seeking one of two seats representing the 4th District, along with incumbents Michael Ferro, D-Marshall, David Evans, R-Marshall, and Democrat challengers David Sidiropolis and Dave Hall. The district includes all of Marshall County and a small portion of Ohio County.

Morris is retired from Bayer Corp., most recently as an environmental manager, and he believes he brings something different to the race - a deep familiarity with environmental regulations that have become a major topic of discussion in the state.

"I'm for clean air and clean water, but not for ridiculous regulations that prevent industries from performing in West Virginia," he said.

Morris, who has served as county Republican Party chairman for about five years, said it is an exciting time to be on the ballot as a GOP member, as the party needs a net gain of just four seats to gain a majority in the House of Delegates for the first time in more than 80 years.

"I think all Republicans have an opportunity to make a difference," he said.

Morris is a graduate of the former Moundsville High School and holds a bachelor's degree from West Liberty University and a master's in engineering from West Virginia University.

He also served as a substitute teacher for Marshall County Schools following his retirement from Bayer with 30 years of service.

His wife, Connie, is a retired elementary school teacher who taught at both Washington Lands and Sherrard elementary schools.
