POWHATAN POINT - The Belmont County Sheriff's Department has released updated information on the murder of former Powhatan Mayor Marvin Brown.

According to Detective Sgt. Ryan Allar, it is believed that Brown knew the murderer. Authorities have cleared several suspects by polygraph testing and through processed evidence. Police continue to look for leads into who is responsible for the death of 73-year-old Brown at his property in Powhatan Point.

Brown died in November as a result of a gunshot wound. He was found in a hunting cabin on his property. Brown owned a business in Powhatan Point, where he served as village mayor for a time in the 1980s.

Brown's family is offering a reward totaling more than $20,000, for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death.

Anyone who may have additional information should call the sheriff's office at 740-695-7933, ext. 112.
