WHEELING -Perhaps the strangest part of an ultimately up-and-down, entertaining game between city rivals Linsly and Wheeling Central Friday at Wheeling Central was this little nugget.

Linsly’s Anthony Wallace (right) attempts to block a shot by Wheeling Central’s David Park (11). The two seniors combined for 62 points on the night.

The teams had combined for a grand total of five points in the opening three-plus minutes of the first quarter.

Then chaos, otherwise known as a whole lot of scoring, ensued.

That fittingly cold-as-ice start flew in the face of what was to end a 97-92 Linsly victory against the Maroon Knights. The slow start was not a harbinger of things to come.

After a perhaps apropos cold start, the teams starting lighting up the Central gymnasium nets and the action, a lead changes, never stopped.

Neither did the stat lines.

Anthony Wallace, the Cadets' standout senior, who is quickly approaching 1,500 career points, would score 37 points for the victorious Cadets.

For Wheeling Central, sophomore Chase Harler poured in a career-high 39 points and David Park, on the very night he was honored as a McDonald's All-America nominee, added 32.

It was often a mano-a-mano duel between Wallace and Harler (in the first half) and Wallace and Park in the second half.

Harler had 21 first half points and was still steady in the second half.

Park had 25 second-half points, including 18 in the fourth quarter.

Wallace was steady all night, scoring 17 in the first half and 20 in the second.

The two city rivals would combine for 111 second half points, 61 in the fourth quarter.

It was an old-fashion shootout.

There was limited action in the area due to snow and cold weather but here are a few of the standouts from games that were played last week:
