WHEELING - Two local residents died Saturday in separate, unrelated motor vehicle accidents.
Susie J. Tamburin, 52, of Wheeling died after being struck by a vehicle on Wheeling Island.
Wheeling police responded to Lane 42 near South Broadway Street about 9 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian being struck by a motorist.
Officers found the woman on the ground. She was transported to Wheeling Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 11:43 p.m.
While the woman's death still is under investigation, police believe Tamburin may have already been lying on the ground when she was hit.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated accident, the St. Clairsville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday near Bannock. Joshua A. Myer, 19, of Flushing was traveling east on Belmont County Road 10 when his vehicle veered off the road, struck an embankment and overturned.
He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.
The accident still is under investigation.
In addition to the OSP, responding agencies included the Belmont County Coroner's Office, Belmont County Sheriff's Department and the Cumberland Trail Fire Department.
