VALLEY GROVE - Officials from MarkWest Energy, Valley Grove and Triadelphia fire departments, Wheeling-Ohio County Office of Emergency Services and the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection responded to a home at 9385 National Road in Valley Grove at mid-morning after the resident there called to say water was pouring into her basement.
The resident, Becky Wieczorkowski, said at about 8:30 a.m. she was walking through her house when she heard cracking noises.
She said she looked up and saw walls in her house separating. She then heard the sound of water and found several feet of water pouring into her basement.
Markwest workers were working adjacent to her house at the time on what appears to be a pipeline project. At press time, Markwest employees were assisting the firefighters to correct the problem. They had to break out a window in the basement to drain the water as there was no door to the outside from the basment level. American Electric Power Co. workers were called to the scene to cut power from the house.
