STALEY, Bernard Martin, 80, of New Martinsville, WV, died Monday, September 23, 2013, at home.
He was born January 16, 1933, at Minnie, WV, the son of the late Cecil and Altia Yoho Staley.
Bernard was a 1953 graduate of Reader High School. He then served in the U.S. Marines and was stationed at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. for three years. Upon returning home, he was employed by Phillips Lumber Co. as a bricklayer. Later he worked as a crane operator at Ormet Corp. and retired with 33 years of service.
He was also a member of the American Legion Post 28, New Martinsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half-brother, Donald Yoho; and an adopted brother, David Utt.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Nancy Moellendick Staley; children, Joyce Ellen (Sergio) Salazar of Imperial Beach, CA, Mark Lewis (Lorie) Staley of New Martinsville, and John Matthew Staley of Moundsville; his dog, Spike; six grandchildren, Sarah Elena Salazar, Jessica Lynn Carroll, James Andrew Staley, Alison Marie Staley, Sean Martin Staley, and Derek Matthew Staley; 3 great grandchildren, Eric Marcus Carroll, Jackson Christopher Carroll and Lydia Staley; and five step grandchildren, Crystal Leann Shields, Ray Lee Smith, Melania Willey, and Armando and Brianna Salazar.
Family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville.
Services and interment in Fluharty Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
