Many Democrats Upset With Party

August 13, 2013
The Intelligencer , The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

Let's hope West Virginia Democrat Party leaders are politely hostile to the guest speaker during their annual Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner, scheduled for Oct. 12 in Charleston.

It was announced Monday that Vice President Joe Biden will be the keynote speaker for the dinner. Another featured event will be a celebration of the career of retiring Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va.

Many Mountain State residents will take the Democrats' plan as a slap in the face. After all, Biden has been firmly on the side of his boss, President Barack Obama, in their war against coal and reasonably priced electricity. And Rockefeller has sided with them often.

Still, bringing Biden to our state may be a good idea. It will give West Virginians another opportunity to tell him how worried we are about the White House war on coal - and how angry we are with some leading Democrats for promoting it.
