Health Insurance Premiums Will Rise

The Intelligencer
POSTED: December 22, 2009

In pushing for passage of the health care bill pending in the Senate, Vice President Joe Biden reminded most Americans that it still contains provisions guaranteed to increase premiums on most health insurance policies.

If the bill is enacted, "Insurance companies will no longer be able to deny coverage to those with pre-existing conditions or drop coverage when people get sick. Charging exorbitant premiums based on sex, age or health status will be outlawed," Biden wrote in an op-ed piece in the New York Times.

Insurance involves shared risk. People with pre-existing medical conditions cost insurance companies more. If the Senate bill passes, the companies will have no choice but to pass those increased costs on to the rest of us.

The dems don't vote as a block historically as the republicans do..that is one thing I can say for the GOP in congress....they vote as one making them unstoppable on the move or like a solid brick wall to anyone trying pass anything that the might make the other party look good in the public view. Politics before People, Politics before Country..Politics before Progress...yep the repulican way

former: with the slimmest of majority in congress and turncoats such as lieberman it makes it hard to pass anything of any importance...when you need 60 votes and you can only count on 45-50 for sure..I guess the majority party has to tailor legislation to try to entice the fence sitters and the out right scumbags like lieberman to try and get 60 because the republicans will fillibuster anything that attempts to improve the lives of the general public as they don't have the big bucks that the 'right' tend to*****up to

Russell, the Dems control both houses and need absolutely nothing from the GOP to pass anything. Your comments are ignorant beyond belief. Your own party of Ho's who need to be bought off to vote for their own bill f*cked it up beyond belief.

yep this bill sux...and why?? because the republicans made sure it does...their reverse psycology ain't going to help them in 2010 OR 2012...WE know how they weakened a bill that was supposed to HELP the american people..not the insurance industry. You really can't blame the left for this bill...if it was a liberal bill the people's interests would have been first an foremost

Now answer a question for me, Zipcode: the payments to Obamacare would start in 2010 IF (still an IF) the bill passes. But coverage does not start until 2014 and some cases up to 2019.

What do those with no insurance do between now and 2019?

Don’t go into moronic Bush/Cheney/InsuranceCo Salaries/GOP rant, just answer the friggen question, Smallville.

L M A O at your answer in advance....

Good timing, Zipcode, you always walk into my traps, hillbilly! This just happened a couple of hours ago:

12/22/2009: Rep. Parker Griffith, an Alabama Democrat, announced today that he is switching parties and joining the ranks of the GOP. It is the latest in a string of bad electoral news for House Democrats following a series of recent retirement announcement by lawmakers in right-leaning districts. The departures have given Republicans greater opportunities to pick up seats in the mid-term elections next year.

Here’s a round-up of reactions and analysis on the switch: Jay Newton-Small, TIME: “Griffith’s announcement underscores the nervousness of the Blue Dogs – fiscally conservative Dems – after a year of record spending. Four of them have announced their retirements in recent weeks, creating tough open seats for Dems to defend next November.

Acoutic states "Actually...home health care is going to be on the rise as it is more cost effective and comfortable for patients who qualify."

The NY Times States "The Democrats’ health care bill would reduce projected Medicare spending on home care by $43 billion, or 13 percent, over the next 10 years."

Acoustic you are correct in your statement, a shame the Democrats don't agree with you.

Smallville, in addition to those stated below, the Majority Leader HIMSELF “Dirty Harry Reid” is in big trouble in Nevada and the one of the two crooks responsible for the financial meltdown in 2008, Chris Dodd, is in big trouble in Connecticut. That is why he got a $100 million BUYOFF from the “Healthcare Bill”.

A good start and IF they go, Dems who eat their young will throw the half-blood prince under the bus by 2012 as well.

“While Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid scrambles to assemble 60 Democratic votes for health care legislation that, according to the realclearpolitics**** average of recent polls, is opposed by a 53 percent-to- 38 percent margin, several Democratic members of the House are scrambling for the exits on what is starting to look like a sinking ship.

To the contrary, Dennis Moore (Kansas 3), John Tanner (Tennessee 8), Brian Baird (Washington 3) and Bart Gordon (Tennessee 6) are competent House members who among them have won election to Congress 36 times. Gordon is chairman of the House Science Committee; Tanner was offered an appointment to succeed Al Gore in the Senate in 1992; Baird was lead sponsor of measures to ensure the continuity of Congress in time of national disaster. All have claims to significant legislative accomplishments.”

Smallville zipcode, I will first give you a Zipcode style “brainless” answer: Clinton, Gore lost control the of legislature in 1994 to GOP, blah blah blah blah .History History, Lie Lie…

In other words, change the subject, look to the past, BS BS BS BS. That is how you liberals handle any question I ask. However, since I am not a brain-dead liberal who has to Google DailyKoz to figure out when to go the bathroom, I will answer your question. The entire House is up for reelection but only 1/3 of the Senate next year, so don’t be a Moron about Senate control. However, losing the 60 vote supermajority is virtually a given.

WHEN insurance costs rise, more folks will have the "high priced" insurance that the Demoncrats want to tax. Thus, more will pay for insurance for the po' folk. In reality, Obama only wants a society of the rich and the po' folk. The po' folk are easy to control, since the government gives them everything. The rich will do whatever Obama says 'cause they want to keep some of their money. Middle class - sorry, but you don't fit into Obama's new world order socialist society. Prepare to join the po' folk.

Although smoking is good for the American tobacco industry and the American economy, many employers now refuse to hire smokers based on so-called increased cancer rates for smokers.

It makes no difference to insurance companies if their science is true or false, they will raise rates for the unhealthy and for the handicapped. As much as businesses may want to hire some of these people, businesses will be forced to now not hire women of child-bearing age, not hire workers with many children who will run up health payments, and not hire someone in a wheel chair.

The liberals are supposed to be the bleeding hearts, but no one now will hire someone who has a heart defect or is diabetic. Loony Liberals should have been more careful what they hoped for this Christmas (yes, I know that Liberals do not want me to use that word).

There are only 2 groups that will seem to benefit from this bill, those who have no insurance and cannot afford it now and those with pre-existing conditions. For 90% of the rest of us:

“WellPoint found that a healthy 25-year-old in Milwaukee buying coverage on the individual market will see his costs rise by 178%. A small business based in Richmond with eight employees in average health will see a 23% increase. Insurance costs for a 40-year-old family with two kids living in Indianapolis will pay 106% more. And on and on.”

Nice power grab by the Dems in order to bailout the health care industry. How stupid are you people?

I heard a rumor that by the year 2014, the American people will be tracked on what they purchase regarding to government health care. From cigarettes to ice cream, the government will be watching your every move. Of course this can have an upside. People that live of the government will be like pets. You control when the eat, sleep and sh it.

At some point the editor of this paper will have a pre-existing condition...I hope he doesn't fall under his own desire to deny people health care.

Actually...home health care is going to be on the rise as it is more cost effective and comfortable for patients who qualify.
