Council Mulls Leases, Street Names
By CASEY JUNKINS Staff WriterThose traveling through the Elm Grove section of Wheeling could soon see some new green signs if City Council renames three neighborhood streets.
Council also is slated to consider leasing a parcel of city-owned land near the former Clearview Landfill to some adjacent property owners at a cost of $1 per year.
Council is set to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in City Council Chambers on the second floor of the City-County Building, 1500 Chapline St.
The Wheeling-Ohio County 911 Center requested the address changes to eliminate duplicate street names within the same municipality. The city's planning commission recommends renaming First, Second and Third streets in Elm Grove as Schmidt Lane, Leopold Lane and Hughes Street, respectively.
The meeting will begin with a public hearing regarding a proposal to lease property near the former Clearview Landfill to Tom Rownd and Charles Klein Jr. for $1 per year. Rownd and Klein plan to erect a fence on the property to create a pasture for horses and farm animals.
Council will hold a second public hearing concerning a planned lease with Coal Service Group that would allow the company to place an antenna on top of the Grandview Water Tank.
Members also will consider a budget revision to spend $21,300 to provide $50 holiday gift certificates for use at Kroger or Riesbeck's to all city employees.
Also up for vote are ordinances to spend $32,547 for new Chevrolet Tahoe and $24,700 for a new 12-passenger van for the police department.
Anyone wishing to speak during the 7 p.m. meeting must sign in by 6:45 p.m.

all streets runnuing east to west should be numbered. all lights should be numbered on those street in east to west order. All avenues or blvds identified by north to south travel and named alphabetical.. If you lived at 2389 dipstick avenue and I wanted to come visit. you would say, " take Allen blvd to 7th street light 9, intersecting dipstick, turn right and read the curb numbers. " Oakridge Tn has this simplified.
