5:43 p.m. Ohio Valley Plaza Store Robbed

By JENNIFER COMPSTON-STROUGH
POSTED: November 19, 2009

ST. CLAIRSVILLE - Authorities are investigating a robbery at Ohio Valley Plaza in St. Clairsville.

Witnesses reported that police and fire department officials were at the Factory Card Outlet shortly before 5:30 p.m. Thursday, along with members of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation ands Identification.

Authorities are seeking a male suspect about 6 feet 1 inch to 6 feet 2 inches tall, who was described as "very skinny." Belmont County Sheriff's Sgt. Tom DeVaul said the man was wearing a black, leather jacket with a black and white bandana on his head. He also had a "grayish"goatee.

DeVaul said the man claimed to have a bomb and demanded cash. He left on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

Several surrounding stores in that section of the plaza were evacuated while the incident was investigated, and access to the plaza was restricted.

Witnesses said traffic became congested in and around the plaza as evacuees attempted to leave the shopping center and other traffic flowed into the city for the annual Christmas parade.

Watch for more details in Friday's edition of The Intelligencer.

They could have elaborated more, but the bomb scare wast just that, it was a scare. Package was deemed not a bomb, so this turned into nothing more than a robbery.

Was it robbed or was there a bomb threat? The radio said that there was a bomb threat and that the plaza was evacuated.

Does anyone at the NR listen to the news?
