Project Sticker Shock To Begin Wednesday

By ART LIMANN Staff Writer
POSTED: November 9, 2009

Project Sticker Shock 2009 will be held from10-11 a.m. Wednesday throughout Marshall County.

The Marshall County Family Resource Network and Marshall County Anti-Drug Coalition are sponsoring the program, aimed at reducing the sale of alcohol to youths and at eliminating sales of alcohol to adults who purchase alcohol for youths. More than 50 volunteer youth and adult chaperones are expected to take part in the event.

According to Latrisha Whitelatch, director of substance abuse prevention at the Family Resource Network, the concept was developed by young people of the county.

"Students Against Destructive Decisions at Cameron High School came up with this idea and designed the sticker we used in 2007. The project has expanded since then," she said. "We did it in 2008, and this is the second time we are doing it this year."

She noted 15 locations in Benwood, Glen Dale, Cameron, Moundsville and McMechen will participate.

"The youth and adult chaperones will be placing stickers on multi-pack alcoholic beverages," Whitelatch said.

Following the event, a wrap-up session will be held at the Acapulco Restaurant between 11 a.m. and noon. Whitelach noted volunteer adult chaperones are still needed. Anyone wanting to help should contact the Family Resources Network at 304-845-3300.

Just another example of wasted grant money! I think every alcoholic drink is required to read that "not to be sold to minors!" Now these goofs want to put a sticker on the alcohol and collect grant money...no wonder our deficit is so freakin' high!

This is destruction of property! I don't want a sticker on my beer! Who gave them permission? The stores? I believe the distributor still owns these products and simply rent shelf space. So unless they have the distributor's permission, they should all be arrested for destruction of property. Can I go in a store and just start putting stickers on things?
