WHEELING - Today is a good day to have the blues.

The Heritage Music BluesFest 2009 continues today with 10 hours of sweet, soulful sounds on tap for Ohio Valley music lovers. Those who like their blues with a little funk will love tonight's show closer - Bobby Rush. Walter Trout and Ronnie Baker Brooks also are featured performers on tonight's lineup.

On Friday, Elvin Bishop closed out the Heritage Music BluesFest's opening evening. Blues fans also were treated to sets by The Soul Of John Black, John Nemeth and Eden Brent.

Bill Elliott of Erial, Pa., was one of the first out of his seat to dance Friday at the BluesFest during a performance by Adrian Niles. It was his first time attending the event, and he said he was pleased with what he saw in the early stages of the festival.

"I'm excited - absolutely," he said. "This is a very nice town."

Henry Tate of Cincinnati is a Heritage Music BluesFest veteran. Friday was his third time attending the event. He said he is part of a "blues family" of about 30 members who attend blues festivals throughout the eastern part of the country. He said the Heritage Music BluesFest is one of the finest he attends.

"This ranks high," he said. "I've really come to enjoy this."

Following is today's Bluesfest lineup:

  • Noon - IBC Solo / Duo Winner
  • 1 p.m. - Mikey Jr.
  • 2 p.m. - David Jacobs Strain
  • 4 p.m. - Delta Highway
  • 5:30 p.m. - Saffire the Uppity Blues Women
  • 7 p.m. - Ronnie Baker Brooks
  • 8:30 p.m.- Walter Trout
  • 10 p.m. - Bobby Rush

I still say for its size Wheeling sure has a lot of things going on over the summer. Grew up in Wheeling but lived in Roanoke, VA, a city of 100,000 and Wheeling seems to have more events. Good for us..
