Wetzel Relay for Life Begins Today

From Staff Reports
POSTED: June 20, 2009

Becase of the thunderstorms predicted for Friday evening, the Wetzel County Relay For Life has been postponed until today.

The location and times of all events will remain the same. It will begin at 6 p.m. today and end at 6 a.m. Sunday, held on the Magnolia High School track, New Martinsville.

In its 11th year in the fight against cancer, the Wetzel County relay has already collected more than the $84,000 goal. This is the first time the goal has been met prior to the actual event and organizers are excited to see what the final tally will be.

While teams have already registered and have been conducting fundraisers all year long, the general public is welcome to come to the event, see what all the excitement is about, and take part.

Registration is $10 per person. The schedule of events, which is subject to change, is as follows: 4-6 p.m. Set up and registration; 6 p.m. Survivor Reception; 6:30 p.m. Opening ceremony; 7 p.m. Survivor Lap, first; Caregivers, second; Kids walk, third; Everyone, remaining laps; 7:30 p.m. Silver Eagle Band; 8:30 p.m. First Christian Praise Band; 9 p.m. Purse Auction; 9:45 p.m. Mission Moment; 10 p.m. Luminaria Ceremony; 10:15 p.m. Cake Walk; 10:30 p.m. 100 Miles From No Where; 11:30 p.m. Mr. Relay; 12:30 a.m. Bill Ferrell; 1:30 a.m. Frozen T-shirt contest; 2 a.m. Karaoke Contest with Carman Harman; 4:30 a.m. Fight Back Ceremony; 5 a.m. Awards; and 5:30 a.m. Closing-Final Lap and Breakfast.
