Jane S. Altmeyer

ALTMEYER, Jane Stewart, 57, of Wheeling, W.Va., died on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at her home.

She was born February 22, 1951, in Wheeling, the daughter of Lou Wilson Stewart Crawford of Wheeling and the late Dr. James K. Stewart.

Jane was a high school graduate of Mount de Chantal Visitation Academy in Wheeling; attended Bethany College from 1969 until 1971; and in 1972, graduated Summa Cum Laude in Mathematical Education from WVU. She was an Office Manager for Robert Brann Altmeyer, M.D.; and a member of St. Matthew Episcopal Church in Wheeling, where she served on the Vestry.

She served on the boards of American Red Cross; AMA Alliance; Easter Seal Rehabilitation Center; Florence Crittenton Home; The Kings Daughters Child Care Center; Southern Medical Association Auxiliary; the Wheeling Symphony Auxiliary, where she was Chairman of the Viennese Winter Ball from 1998-2003; and the Harmony House. She was Past President of The Junior League of Wheeling; the Ohio County Medical Society Alliance; Steenrod PTA; and the WV Medical Association Alliance.

She also was a member of the following cooking schools, Greenbrier Culinary Demonstration; The New Orleans School of Cooking; The Santa Fe Cooking School; Rhodes of Cooking; Marrakech Morocco; and the Rhodes School of Cuisine, Provence, France.

In addition to her involvement with community services, she was devoted to her family, especially to her granddaughter, Gray, her friends, cooking and wine.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her loving husband of 37 years, Robert Brann Altmeyer, M.D.; two sons, Stewart Edmund Altmeyer, J.D. and his wife, Angela Jeanne Altmeyer of Charleston, W.Va., and Wilson Brann Altmeyer, M.D. and his wife, Mary Dennis Altmeyer, M.D.; a sister, Ellen Wallace Stewart of Longmont, Mont.; and her adoring granddaughter, Elizabeth Gray Altmeyer.

Friends received on Friday, August 29, 2008, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m., at the Kepner Funeral Home, National Rd at Bethany Pike, Wheeling.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2008, at 11 a.m., at St. Matthew Episcopal Church, 1410 Chapline St., Wheeling, with the Reverend Mark E. Seitz officiating.

Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.

Memorial contributions may be made to a local fundraiser to benefit underserved women in West Virginia by providing diagnostic screening services for breast and cervical cancer that Jane founded known as "Think Pink"; Think Pink, c/o Julie Squibb, 2 Beechwood Dr., Wheeling, WV 26003.
