As part of a multi-day, “directed patrol mission” to combat city nuisances, five Wheeling women and one Martins Ferry woman were arrested last week for prostitution. As part of the same law-enforcement effort, Gessler said 11 men were arrested Saturday and early Sunday for solicitation after some of the city’s female officers posed as prostitutes in city neighborhoods.
Gessler on Monday stressed the need for the operation.
“Number one, we’ve received numerous complaints from the residents of the East Wheeling and Center Wheeling areas and business representatives,” Gessler said. “These individuals are not only a nuisance to the neighborhood, but in most cases, they parallel drug activity. That’s not to mention the sexually transmitted diseases and the things of that nature. We are not going to tolerate it.”
According to information released by the Wheeling Police Department, the directed patrol missions included the enforcement of laws prohibiting open alcohol containers, trespassing, littering, public urination, excessive noise, disorderly conduct, gambling, obstructing traffic, obstructing sidewalks, drugs and juvenile curfew laws.
In addition to the arrests related to alleged prostitution, a Wheeling man was arrested for petit larceny for allegedly breaking into a vending machine. Two other Wheeling men were charged for having open containers of beer in public.
Gessler said such police efforts will continue throughout the city. He described the operation as a “proactive approach” to prevent crime and other associated problems before they occur. Gessler said the operation was a success.
“The officers did a tremendous job,” Gessler said. “We are hopeful the court will take action against those arrested previously.”
Arrested for prostitution were:
? Marci Grubba, 47, of Wheeling — arrested in the 1500 block of Market Street;
? Chassette Arno, 31, of Wheeling — arrested in the 1400 block of Market Street;

? Beth Ann Davis, 24, of Wheeling — arrested near 33rd and Chapline Streets; and

Margarits: "Then there was one who was kinda hot who offered a blow job for $10, I probably should have taken it. Really shocked that one wasn't on here." WOW - married women get more payment for those! TEN DOLLARS??? Wait, wait - that is if they "sell them" at all! lol.... Sorry I cannot help myself with the jokes.

Typical cover up with Wheeling Police Department...I am glad the ladies are petite, it just shows how much of a coward the WPD really are. Walk down 14th and 15th street, or better yet come to my building and clean up the Drug Dealers here..how many times have I reported the plate numbers, rooms and individuals dealing this poison within Supported Housing Program that is run by a non-profit and the City, County & State of WV. I have only met one police officer, a undercover police officer...because he was actually doing his job and helping the tenants...he was transferred somewhere else...so the drug problem and violence again continues where it left off in the building. But let someone jaywalk in front of the 7-11 and the cops are there to cite the law....freak'en cowards WPD...

The Crack problem in Wheeling is out if control and I have heard that the police won’t do anything about it because it’s up to the drug task force. Well if that isn’t a crock I don’t know what is. I grew up in North Wheeling and moved away for 20 years and have now moved back. What a disgrace the place has turned into. Burned out and dilapidated buildings, overgrown vacant lots and drug dealers and users on almost every corner. And they wonder why nobody will open up new businesses here. It seems that the city administrators focus all of their attention on the better areas of Wheeling and leave the rest alone. Eventually the drug problems will move into the better areas and I bet we see some action then. Maybe with the election of some new city council members this will change but I doubt it. Wheeling has a history of electing the wrong people and keeping them in their elected offices until they decide to give up their seat. Let’s pray that someone will finally get it right in the cit

Eh, take away the acne problem and Beth wouldn't be so bad. Would I pay for it? Good lord no, but judging by the looks of the fellas in these mugshots, a couple bucks for a quickie might be money well spent to them.

I worked at a bar downtown for months and met some of these lovely ladies. Not bad people, but they aren't big tippers. There was a thicker girl that was always trying to solicit my business, and I'm shocked she's not on the list here. Then there was one who was kinda hot who offered a blow job for $10, I probably should have taken it. Really shocked that one wasn't on here.

Catching prostitutes is ez. Wheelings PD can't do anything about the drugs or shootings, so they need some good press. The only post that really matters was written by Quasar!! So true!

MeanStreak, your point is well taken. It is their choice. I just wish parents would spend more time with their kids and stop letting the tv or computer do their baby sitting for them! I pray that I am doing enough to raise my kids right.

ktbass ok I give in. I do understand what you are saying but it does finally come down to personal choice. People ALWAYS have a choice. Even if their parents are not worth sh*t

Crack don't smoke itself! Really need to bring back the "houses" and keep it off the streets. Every date I go on I spend more money than these "Johns" were likely spending and they cut out the middle man.

You're right, the spouses and the children of the "johns" and the hookers are the victims here. I think that would be a great idea, start posting pictures in the paper and the website of arrested drug dealers.

This is just another symptom of the extreme & ongoing decline of the City - now largely a collection of run down empty buildings. There does,however, seem to be a regional draw.Perhaps the recent installation of the expensive-six figure- signs is working?

The city of Wheeling is awash in drugs and the cops are concentrating on prostitutes....something wrong here. How 'bout we get 50 drug dealers with their pictures in the paper, including the big boys at the top of the drug chain....Ain't gonna happen folks. America loves it's drugs....Wheeling loves it drugs.

kmd0302...... "they were sitting at the red light by Straub's and were approached, and said they didn't have enough money" ... That is called negations for a sex act, They had to inquire as to what was the price in the first place,to say they didn't have enough money.

kbass thanks for the assumption. Not true at all but thanks for making yourself look like an a**. What about free choice? What about making an honest living? What about all the people that are raised interrible situations and turn out fantastic? That is free choice.

It is not our place to judge people. Some of these women grew up in horrific situations. How did Hogan and Szatkowski keep their pictures out of the paper?

Yes, yet another example of Wheeling's finest. What amazes me is that there were people from out of the area arrested here. Aren't there any prospects in Shadyside?

These women are at fault, but what made them want to do this? I am saying they were failed by their parents for not raising them right. If any one out there has children, think of them in this position and ask yourself what YOU did wrong. It starts somewhere.
