Sgt. Richard A. “Ricky,” Williams
WILLIAMS, Sgt. Richard A. “Ricky,” 23, of Moundsville, W.Va., died Sunday, May 11, 2008, in Ozark, Ala.
He was born July 5, 1984 in Glen Dale, W.Va.
Sgt Williams served two tours of duty in Iraq from November 17, 2003 until December 18, 2004 and June 30, 2006 until June 21, 2007. He received numerous commendations, including three Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement, Army Good Conduct Medal, the U.S. Antarctic Expedition Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Service Ribbons, Combat Action Badge, and Weapons Qualification: Expert Rifle.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Allan W. Williams.
Surviving are his mother, Holli L. Williams of Moundsville; his maternal grandmother, Joyce S. Williams of Moundsville; maternal great-grandparents, James E. and Mary E. Pettit of Bethelem, W.Va.; two uncles, Allan W. (Bobbie Jo) Williams, Jr. of Wintersville, Ohio and Daniel T. Williams and his fiancee, Crystal, of Moundsville; a brother, Lonnie (Tiffany) Becker of Moundsville; cousins, Courtney, Kaylee, Daniel T., “D.J.,” Alaina J. “Allie” Williams, and several other cousins, aunts, uncles, and many friends.
Friends received 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Monday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes and Kirby Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2008.
Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville, with full military graveside honors by the United States Army and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
