Juvenile’s Death Probed by Police

POSTED: May 5, 2008

DILLONVALE — Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and Dillonvale Police are investigating the cause of death of a 15-year-old male at his home Sunday morning.

The sheriff’s department reported the juvenile was sleeping in a bed at the home with his 14-year-old girlfriend when she awoke to find him not breathing.

Abdalla said Dillonvale Emergency Services received a call Sunday around noon about an emergency reportedly regarding cardiac arrest. The 15-year-old male was taken to East Ohio Regional Hospital at Martins Ferry where he was pronounced dead.

Dr. John Metcalf, Jefferson County coroner, is working with authorities in Belmont County, advising what kind of information he needs, according to the sheriff.

Sheriff Fred Abdalla reported blood and urine tests were taken but the results aren’t known. This is being done to see if there were narcotics or some type of drug in the youth’s system, Abdalla said. He added there is a possibility that prescription drugs may be involved.

The female juvenile admitted to taking prescription medicine and drinking beer Saturday night, according to the sheriff’s department. She was taken into custody on a probation violation charge out of juvenile court.

The sheriff’s department reported there were quantities of other prescription medicine around the house.

Well, it's official. It was determined that the juvenile died of a drug overdose. Bad parenting leads to yet another dead teen!

"Kids raising kids" - that's exactly correct - this is the kind of behavior that makes it a generational issue!

I never cease to be amazed at the things teenagers are able to do. A 14-year old girl (8th grade) "sleeping over" with her 15-year old boyfriend....wow. Yes I have teenagers--I have learned never to say "that won't happen to my kids", but ... wow

Of course there are a lot of details that the public will ever know regarding this situation, however, yes, I would hope that parents know where their children are. Personally, I can find no rationalization as to why a 14 and 15 year old should have the opportunity to sleep together. It is my role as a parent to teach my children right from wrong and lead a life that they can example. (And yes, I am the mother of a teenager!) Perhaps this unfortunate story will make some parents think twice before allowing their "children" to live as adults.

Ok read the article, "14 year old girl sleeping in bed with a 15 year old boy".. "quantities of perscription drugs found around the house". Hopefully we know as parents who our children, and I use the word "children" are sleeping with under our own roof. This was a young boy whose life was senselessly lost.

Oh, here we go again with the nasty comments again. Anyone who thinks you can watch a teen every minute of every day very obviously does not have teenagers.

Looks like another wrongful death suit. Whoever owns the house where this crime took place should be facing charges soon. Where were the parents? Where was the supervision?
