Singer To Present Concert For Scouts
Internationally-recognized singer Mollie O’Brien is returning home to Wheeling to present another benefit concert for Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council. The Wheeling native, who is also a former Girl Scout, will be performing in concert at Oglebay’s Pine Room at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 13. Organizers said that proceeds from the benefit will help make Girl Scouting available to girls in West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio and Maryland. O’Brien did a similar benefit concert for the Girl Scouts at the Pine Room last year. ??? Area friends and colleagues were saddened to learn of the death of former Wheeling resident Anne Norton, who succumbed at age 91 in Zanesville on Saturday, Feb. 20. Norton was tjhe longtime owner of Anne’s Corner on the Market in the Centre Market area of Wheeling. Her popular shop was a focal point for renewed interest in the Centre Market District. Norton also was an accomplished artist. Her daughter Beth Taylor, a former Centre Market manager who now lives in Zanesville, said that her family and officials of Artworks Around Town are planning a special tribute to honor Norton and to recognize her interest in the Centre Market and her artistic accomplishments. Taylor explained that the May exhibition at the Artworks gallery, located in the upper markethouse of the Centre Market, will be a retrospective of Norton’s work. Artworks’ monthly Gallery Hop, taking place from 5-8 p.m.
