MOUNDSVILLE — It seems as though we were just winding down from last year’s rainy fair week, but it is time for another fun-filled week to begin with the 2010 edition of the Marshall County Fair. Board members and community volunteers have been busy with bi-weekly bingo games, craft shows, gun shows, flea market, and auctions. These year- round activities provide funds to sustain the grounds and prepare for the annual fair week activities. The fair board strives to be active in the community and “give back” as it is able. This year the grounds were donated for a “Back to School” Fair, Emergency Shelter during the snowstorm, Swine Flu Vaccination Clinic, and Women in Ag Day presentation. Additionally, the Fair Royalty participated in the Marshall County Christmas Parade, as well as the Christmas Tree Auction sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. There have been numerous improvements to the grounds this year. One of the most notable was the renaming of the fairs central building to the “Chesapeake Energy Events Building.” Their generous donation for the naming right is being utilized for building improvements both inside and out. Additionally, the inside of the OES Building has been renovated with steel walls and ceilings. The horse barn has undergone an expansion project and new wash racks have been installed. The Halley Hubbs Arena also has experienced upgrades courtesy of the Livestock Club members. The 2010 Marshall County Fair will have something for everyone.
